Day 1: Kigali - Nyungwe Forest National Park
Arrive to Kigali International Airport where you will be met by African Secrets representative and your driver / guide for the safari. You will have lunch either in Kigali or en route depending on arrival time. Proceed to southern Rwanda and Nyungwe Forest National Park arriving late afternoon / early evening. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking
Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda is south of Lake Kivu on the border with Burundi. Established in 2004 the park covers an area of approximately 970 km² of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps and bogs. Nyungwe is one of the oldest forests in Africa and is one of the last few mountain rainforest habitats.
Early start trekking for the chimpanzees, this can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on where the chimpanzees are. It should be mentioned that it is not guaranteed to see the chimps as they are unpredictable and can move long distances in one day. There are several other primates in Nyungwe such as the Ruwenzori collubus, L’Hoest’s monkey, The Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey to name a few. After the trek return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Rwanda Cultural Tour
After breakfast, return to Kigali. Visit the cultural museum in Butare enroute. Transfer to airport for your onward flight.
